SLICE Anthology
The Comics Lab

SLICE is the anthology of the 11 finalists to the first Irish Graphic Short Prize in 2019. Co-ordinated and edited by members of The Comics Lab, an Irish-based collective of comic makers and educators, and sponsored by The Irish Times, I illustrated the cover art to the anthology and designed the full book. The anthology was launched at the April 2019 Dublin Comic Arts Festival (DCAF) event, and the three finalists/winner were announced.

The cover features a ‘selkie punk’, inspired by the traditional folklore figure of the seal/human hybrid selkie, reading a comic book in Dublin Bay surrounded by seals and other urban wildlife. Design tasks included typesetting, hand-drawn headers, and print management.

SLICE features stories by: Alé Mercado  /Archie Templar /Colin Craker /Damien O'Reilly /Eoin Whelehan/Dara T. Higgins (Joint project, runner-up prize) /Estrela Lourenco / Morgan O Regan /Sarah Walsh /Sinéad Nestor /Stephen Morton (Winner) /Stephen Maurice Graham (Second Runner-up)

Client: The Comics Lab | Role: Illustrator, Designer | Scope: full design of interior book, inner and outer cover illustration | Co-Editors: Debbie Jenkinson and Sarah Bowie | Made possible by funding by The Irish Times
